Returns information about vertices that are not assigned to any basin, typically because they are isolated by the edge length threshold. This includes identification of any local extrema among the uncovered vertices.

Usage

uncovered.vertices.gfc.flow(gfc.flow)

Arguments

gfc.flow

A gfc.flow object from compute.gfc.flow().

Value

A list with components:

vertices

Integer vector of uncovered vertex indices (1-based).

n.uncovered

Total number of uncovered vertices.

n.total

Total number of vertices in the graph.

coverage

Fraction of vertices covered (assigned to at least one basin).

local.minima

Integer vector of uncovered vertices that are local minima.

local.maxima

Integer vector of uncovered vertices that are local maxima.

n.local.minima

Number of uncovered local minima.

n.local.maxima

Number of uncovered local maxima.

by.type

Data frame with columns: vertex, type ("regular", "lmin", "lmax").

Details

Uncovered vertices arise when the edge length threshold prevents trajectories from reaching valid endpoints. These vertices are typically isolated outliers connected to the main graph only through atypically long edges.

Local extrema among uncovered vertices represent minima or maxima that were identified in the initial extrema detection but could not form valid basins because no trajectories with valid endpoints passed through them.
